Massage Therapy is a blend of rigorous science and art where every massage therapist brings their own style and “tools” to the table, incorporating experience with many studied modalities. While many forms of massage exist worldwide, they are all variations on five basic strokes of Swedish massage; effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement, and vibration.
Swedish Massage consists of long, gliding strokes, kneading stokes, percussive tapping, and movement across the grain of the muscles. It can be slow and gentle to reduce tension and calm the nervous system or vigorous and stimulating to soften muscles and precede deeper techniques used in Deep Tissue Massage or Sports Massage. The use of warmed stones creates a profoundly relaxing Hot Stone Massage and adding Aromatherapy stimulates the senses while calming the mind.
