Pregnancy and Prenatal Massage
Supportive Pregnancy Massage
Prenatal massage attends specifically to the needs of pregnant women, their changing bodies, and on the concerns of each trimester.
Special positioning and body pillows, wedge pillows and extra padding are utilized to make the expectant mother comfortable while receiving the massage.
Expectant mothers will receive the same benefits as from a regular swedish massage session. However, many common discomforts associated with pregnancy can be addressed with massage therapy such as edema and swelling of the joints, nerve inflammation with resulting sciatic pain, stress and anxiety due to changing hormones.
Massage during pregnancy is usually safe for most mothers. It is important to inform you therapist if you are having any problems or complications with your pregnancy before you begin. If you are, then your therapist will require approval from your primary health care provider before proceeding with any therapeutic massage.
